Why your B2B website gets traffic and no leads

A B2B website that gets traffic and produces no leads is not underperforming, it is leaking, and the leaks are almost always the same five. None of them require a redesign to find. Most do not require a redesign to fix. Here they are, in the order that actually pays to work through.

Leak one: the site describes you, not the problem

The visitor arrives with a problem and finds a homepage about your platform, your mission and your passion for innovation. Nothing on the screen matches the sentence in their head, so they leave. The fix is brutal and cheap: the first screen states the buyer's problem in the buyer's words and says plainly who you do it for. Everything vague on that first screen is rent paid to bounce rate. This is the same discipline as choosing one ICP, applied to copy.

Leak two: proof that proves nothing

Trusted by leading companies. Results-driven approach. A wall of logos nobody can interrogate. B2B buyers are professionally sceptical, and vague proof reads as absence of proof. Named clients, specific numbers, and quotes from people who can be looked up convert; everything else decorates. One real case study outsells ten adjectives.

Visitors do not bounce because your site is ugly. They bounce because nothing on it sounds like their problem or proves you solve it.

Leak three: the ask is too big

A seven-field form that promises someone will be in touch is a test of desperation, not interest. The working pattern is one honest action, visible everywhere: book a call, see the calendar, pick a slot. Every field you add filters out busy people, and busy people are the buyers.

Leak four: slow pages, dead moments

Every second of load time costs a slice of visitors, and B2B traffic from ads or outbound clicks is expensive traffic to lose to a hero video. Compressed images, no script bloat, pages that respond instantly: table stakes, frequently unpaid.

Leak five: the follow-up that never came

  • An enquiry answered in five minutes and one answered the next morning are different businesses to the buyer.
  • Booked calls with no confirmation and no reminder no-show at double the rate.
  • Form fills that land in an unwatched inbox are leads you paid for and then threw away.

This leak lives between the website and the CRM, which is why fixing it belongs to ops, and why a site audit that stops at the pixels misses it, the same wiring problem covered in build the CRM you can actually trust.

The fix order

Message first, proof second, friction third, speed fourth, follow-up fifth, and measure between each change so you know what moved. This is the exact sequence we run inside Website, Landing Pages & CRO, with real visitor data doing the arguing. If your site looks fine and books nothing, the audit takes a week. Book a call and we will find the leak.
